Berthoud's New Saddle

Gilles Berthoud has been 18 months developing his vision of an improved leather saddle. The saddle was introduced at Eurobike, in early September '08, and production models should be available at the beginning of 2009. The initial model will come in a men's and women's version and there will be a black model in addition to the "natural" and "cork" versions pictured.

See our blog
for more information.

7/24 update: We have the bags and the prices. I am slow to get them on the website. (We are pretty busy right now.) The 'May' saddlebag will cost $201. The 'Retro' frontbag will cost $398. The webpage for the saddlebag is up but you cannot order online. The webpage for the frontbag is up also.

GUU-WATANABE Bags

Here is a picture of our first shipment of Guu-watanabe bags, still in Tokyo. We ordered a handlebar bag x5 and a saddle bag x4. We weren't sure what to get but the handlebar bag is tested in the current Bicycle Quarterly.

(on the GUU website: frontbag retro, saddlebag may)

This is a test-the-waters order. If there is a market I will carry more variety. These are very nice people to work with.

The bags are leaving Tokyo today via (I-hope-more-reliable-than-DHL, see Zwei below) UPS.

A New Leather Saddle

Gilles Berthoud has been developing his own version of the traditional leather saddle. We have the story of this project in his own words.
